Support Nancy through her fight with Cancer

Donation protected
A couple of months ago Nancy went into the Emergency room with a terrible stomach ache. At first, the CT scan didn't find anything. A month later she was back in with so much pain she could barely see. This time the CT scan showed masses throughout her stomach. It was an incredibly fast-growing ovarian cancer. She now has Stage 4 metastatic ovarian cancer that has now also become peritoneal cancer and can be found in the lymph nodes and liver. Her doctor described it as a paint coat covering her internal organs. She just started her first round of chemotherapy. Her treatment will last 6-8 months at a minimum and will include rounds of chemotherapy, surgery, more chemotherapy, and then ongoing medication for life.

Nancy needs support to get through this.

Nancy is one of those people that you just feel good around. She is always smiling, and despite the many challenges she has faced in her life, she is full of laughter and brightness. She is an adventurer at heart with a passion for anything nature, from scuba diving to spending time by the river with her dogs.

She is also an incredibly caring and compassionate mother who will do whatever it takes for her two daughters, 12 and 15. Over the past two years, her eldest daughter has been in and out of Calgary hospitals and has now been diagnosed with an auto-immune disease. I work with Nancy and I can't tell you how many times I have received emails at 6 or 7 am because she had to spend the day bringing her daughter into the hospital or to see specialists in Calgary. Her daughter continues to need monthly trips to the Children's Hospital.

Nancy is also one of those people who just cares, no matter what she does. A communications and marketing specialist, she has worked at artsPlace, the Canmore Museum, the Town of Canmore, and provided social media support to a large number of other businesses in the Bow Valley.

Nancy is unable to work as she goes through this. She receives a small amount of EI sickness benefit and her partner who usually works in Northern BC must now stay home to support her and bring Nancy and her daughter to their medical appointments in Calgary. He hopes to find flexible part-time work in town so he can be there to help them through this.

Nancy has gone through the numbers and with regular costs like rent, utilities, car payments, food and medical costs, she needs an additional $86,560. This would allow her to get through the months of treatment, and support her for a couple of months afterwards as she gets her feet back under her, finds contracts and gets back to work.

Please consider supporting her and her beautiful family as they deal with this very trying time.

With all of my heart,
Becky
