Support Nancy's Battle Against Brain Cancer

Donation protected

On June 28th my family's world was turned upside down when the doctors found a Malignant (cancerous) Grade 4 Glioblastomas tumor in my Mom's brain, pressing on her motor functions and limiting her movement.  She will begin 6 weeks, 5 days a week of aggressive radiation and chemo therapy this week, followed immediately by optune and another round of chemo.  Most of the treatments will be local but once a week we need to drive to MUSC in Charleston for testing and to meet with our Nuero Oncologist.  The drive is 2 hours each way.

6 days later my Dad went into the hospital for emergency surgery on a ruptured colon and needing a bowel resection.  11 days later he is still in the hospital, his body in shock and struggling to recover.  Because this was an emergency surgery, the surgeon was unable to go in laproscopically and had to cut open his abdominal wall.  He will need to have another major surgey in 3 months to stitch him back together.  My Dad will be unable to drive, or even do simple tasks, like taking out the trash or mowing the lawn for the next 5-6 months. It will take about a year for his abdominal strength to fully recover.

My parents spent the last 25 years dreaming of retiring to Myrtle Beach and living a few hours from their precious grandbabies.  My Dad retired on June 7th in Pennsylvania and they made the move up South Carolina on June 18th, never expecting our lives to change so drastically 10 days later.   Being new to the state, they have no community, no friends and no established doctors in South Carolina.  Neither of my parents can drive for the foreseeable future, further complicating the experience.

In less than one week all of my families lives have been turned upside down.  I will be relocating from Seattle to South Carolina for the next several months to be my parents primary care giver through this journey.  Even this isn't easy, as I need to drive my 92 lb dog across the country, a 48 hour drive each way.

We are humbly asking you to donate any amount to the Filer Family trusting that every penny will be used to help us get on our feet and thrive during this time of crisis.

If you are local to the Myrtle Beach area and are moved to contribute by sharing your valuable time, we could use help with:

- driving my mom to her daily appointments

- taking my mom or dad out to lunch and helping them build a circle of friends in SC

- spending time with my Dad while I take my mom to Charleston each week.

- grocery shopping

- meals and meal prep

- lawn mowing

- house cleaning

- laundry

- help with errands

- dog walking

We are eternally grateful for the ongoing prayers and support, near and far. Your help is truly needed and we are grateful for anything you feel called to contribute.

As we go on this journey, we are trusting that this is happening for us and not to us.  We believe that God has a purpose for us on this path and are keeping our hearts open and our hope alive.  We are blessed by each one of you and are infinitely thankful for your prayers, your time, and your financial support.

If you work at T-Mobile and feel called to contribute, all donations made through RevJLO in the Giving Portal will be doubled by T-Mobile. Here is the link -
