Hello, my name is Aiden and I’m a high school student. I am starting a GoFundMe for the NDSS, to help make a difference in our communities. Down syndrome is a genetic disorder caused by the presence of an extra chromosome 21. It affects individuals in various ways, often leading to developmental delays and physical characteristics such as a flattened facial profile and almond-shaped eyes. These challenges can make everyday tasks more difficult and require additional support throughout their lives.

Many individuals with Down syndrome face issues such as heart defects, respiratory problems, and hearing impairments. These medical conditions can be overwhelming and require ongoing medical attention, adding stress to both the individuals and their families. Sadly, people with Down syndrome often experience exclusion from society. Misunderstanding and prejudice can lead to social isolation, limiting their opportunities to participate in community activities, education, and employment. This exclusion not only deprives them of the chance to lead fulfilling lives but also robs society of the unique perspectives and contributions they can offer.

I myself do not have Down syndrome, but my sister did, who sadly wasn’t able to live her life and passed before she was even able to come into the world. It's crucial that we work towards greater inclusion and understanding to ensure that everyone, regardless of their abilities, is valued and supported in this world.
