Support needed for Embera families on the street
Donation protected
Hi there my name is Ana, I have worked with Embera Chami families evicted from their traditional lands and trading their crafts on the streets of Bogota. I have been doing this with my project Mami Watta Collections for the past 4 years.
More and more Embera families are approaching me for support, yet is hard as we are also living it tough here in Australia, sales are slow and I have an ongoing commitment with two large families of up to 30 artisans.
Generally tribes have been able to survive through the trade of their beadworks, explaining the massive migration of the Embera people to the capital city of Bogota. However with the collapse of the tourism inflow since the pandemic hit, the survival of the Embera people is under threat.
I have recently been contacted by a young Embera music artist and leader Libardo Lidboylatino who is living with his family in these tents along hundreds of families. I have accepted to create this fundraiser to send over some support for basic groceries and blankets. The current situation for thousands of Indigenous peoples across Colombia is critical, as the Minga movement is taking place since 2020, with First Nations peoples demanding their basic human rights be respected. We really appreciate your support! evidence that the funds will be used for purchase of basic resources will be provided (this was the condition upon accepting to do this fundraiser with Libardo).
