Support needed for Indigenous Elders at Cop27

Thank you to the 136 people who contributed to this crowdfunding campaign to support indigenous elders and wisdom keepers. The solidarity and support have warmed our hearts and helped those who travelled to Egypt to feel the support of the global community.

Global meetings like COP27 are spaces of convening - not only for those developing policies to address climate change but also for the critical movements that are crying out for Earth-centred decisions. Indigenous people protect over 80% of the world's biodiversity, holding knowledge and understanding of what is needed.

CALL FOR URGENT SUPPORT: 12 Indigenous Elders from 10 countries are suddenly without accommodation and funding at COP27. Urgent support is needed for immediate arrangements.

Indigenous populations are vital stewards of our planet, yet indigenous and primordial wisdom remains largely underrepresented in the global climate narrative. An initiative to amplify these necessary voices has come to an unfortunate halt with 12 Elders and Wisdom Keepers having lost funding and accommodation while already on the ground in Egypt due to high security regulations and logistical complications in the City of Dahab. The group has been redirected to Sharm El Sheikh where prices are 5 times higher than usual and constantly escalating. The Elders and Wisdom Keepers from the Mother Earth Delegation, The Eagle and the Condor, the Earthrise Collective and the Alliance for Mother Earth's Guardians are now urgently in need of financial support in order to be respectfully accommodated and fed so that they can do the work they need to do. 

These elders have travelled from Benin, Peru, Guatemala, Canada, Mexico, Ecuador, South Africa, Sweden, Egypt and New Zealand.

COP27 is a unique opportunity to integrate these thought leaders into multistakeholder conversations where their perspectives are direly needed. With your support, we can ensure that these Elders and Wisdom Keepers continue to be cared for, respected, and heard.

Through extreme kindness, we have been gifted to stay in a villa for 4 nights in Sharm El Sheikh, but still need accommodation and funding for food and ground transportation.
