Support Needed to Retrieve Essential Items

Donation protected
Hello folks, a friend of mine suggested that I try this because I am in a desperate situation. Just over a month ago, I was involved in a horrific accident that crushed my right ankle, broke bones across the top of both feet, two toes on my left foot, cracked my ulna in two places near the wrist on my left along with a shattered collarbone on the left side. I was taken by ambulance from the scene and my passenger, Marianne (my mother), was life flighted: unfortunately, she did not make it. The van I was driving was totaled and hauled away. I was in Essentia St. Mary’s in Duluth for sixteen days.

I am currently renting (borrowing) a loft space from a friend in Duluth. I made the decision to stay in Duluth rather than returning to Chisholm because of the accessibility to public transportation, career training, job opportunities, and support from my friends: none of those things are available for me in Chisholm. Upon my release from the hospital, I contacted the tow company to find out where to retrieve my belongings from. I was told by the company owner that I had to pay the towing fee plus storage for each day, a total that sits today at $2100.

I do not have any money in savings and only a motorcycle that I already tried to sell. Many of my personal belongings are in that van because we had been away at friends for the weekend but, most importantly, the majority of my personal documents and laptop, iPad. I am unable to drive for at least a year, I have no use in my left arm/hand and shoulder and my right foot which has two plates, three rods, and four screws in the ankle. I am zero weight bearing on that ankle for at least two more months at which time I will still have restrictions and start full PT.

I have training set up to start in September through a program here in Duluth but I need documentation from my belongings to complete that process and in order to apply for any short term benefits to get me through. I spoke to lawyers and there does not seem to be any recourse there for retrieving my belongings that would move quickly enough. I have only twelve days left before he can strip the car of everything. There are too many things in there that are necessary not to mention personally important to let it go. This has become my last ditch effort to save and improve myself and try to move beyond the last eighteen months of hell. I ask, most humbly, that you consider helping me and I am grateful for any assistance that you can provide.
