Support Nehemiah’s Road to Recovery from Major Head Trauma
Donation protected
Dear friends, family and kind friends of friends,
We are reaching out to you on behalf of Nehemiah Talbott, who recently experienced a life-altering tragedy.
On November 14th, Nehemiah met a friend to take a pottery class. He never came home. He was found unconscious on the side of the road. He was rushed to the hospital and was found to have bilateral skull fractures and multiple brain bleeds and contusions. How he sustained such massive injuries is unknown. There are no other injuries on his body and his wounds are inconsistent with being hit by a car, tripping and falling or being beaten. Detectives are working on the case, and we will update with anything we learn.
Due to the rising intracranial pressure, he was given a hemicraniectomy, where half of the skull is removed to release the pressure on the brain. He will remain heavily sedated for several weeks while being cared for by a team of neurosurgeons, ICU and trauma physicians and nurses. There is no way to determine a prognosis yet and they continue the delicate dance of changing medications and treatments to keep his brain temperature and pressure within a safe range, keeping him oxygenated and preventing infections.
Nehemiah is the oldest of seven siblings. He was about to start a new job position in his nursing career. Among his many interests are bicycling, woodworking, painting, reading sci-fi and astronomy. He has a long road ahead of him, but we pray he is able to once again enjoy the things he loves.
He is currently receiving critical treatment at Hershey Medical Center in Pennsylvania, and his long term recovery may require extensive care and possibly equipment with costs far exceeding what his insurance will cover. Calculating on an amount for his recovery is difficult since it is unclear what his long term needs will be. If his recovery does not require extensive care and equipment, we will refund money not needed.
We are humbly asking for your support to help ease the financial burdens he will accumulate. Every contribution, no matter how small, will make a meaningful difference in his life going forward. Please consider sharing this campaign with your network.
