We never thought we'd be reaching out for help in such dire circumstances, but life has a way of throwing unexpected challenges our way. Amy, Malik, Kim, and Al, long-term Bernal Heights residents and visitors of residents, recently fell victim to a senseless act of arson that left them without their essential means of transportation – their cars. This devastating incident has not only left them all emotionally shaken but has also created a significant financial burden that they are struggling to overcome.
The attack was completely random and has shocked us all. Unfortunately, the insurance coverage falls short of the full cost of replacing their vehicles, leaving them in a tough spot. Malik still needs to pay financing on his car even though it was totaled, as he only purchased it two months before the incident. The other three cars involved are early-2000s models that they will get blue book value on. They all rely heavily on their cars to commute to work, run daily errands, and maintain a sense of independence.
We are reaching out to our community, friends, and anyone willing to lend a helping hand to support them during this challenging time. We are hoping to raise $5k per person, which will go directly towards covering deductibles, car rentals, and purchasing new vehicles. This will help them regain a sense of normalcy and stability in their lives. The thought of starting from scratch is daunting, but with your help, we believe they can rebuild and move forward.
