Support Nick Bolton Through Brain Cancer

Donation protected
In May 2022, Nick was suddenly diagnosed with a brain tumor. On June 1, 2022, he underwent a craniotomy to resect the tumor. Through subsequent pathology, we learned that he has a diffuse astrocytoma. We have had many doctor's appointments for follow-up care, evaluations, and treatment planning. Nick’s cancer care team will be located in Boston, MA, with trips required at least every two months for MRIs and new medications.

We have such loving family, friends, and coworkers. There have been so many offers to help that we have been blown away. There have also been many generous gift cards, letters, and prayers. We have experienced such an outpouring of love. We know we will never walk through this alone. Thank you.

This page was created not because we have a specific funding goal, but because we have been asked many times if there is a way to help. At first, we could honestly say we couldn't think of any way for so many people to help other than good wishes and prayers for Nick’s recovery and skill for the doctors. Those continue to be very important prayers. Please continue praying.

Since then, we have realized some critical needs for funds for his specialized diet to have ongoing healthy food for Nick (we are talking to a specialist to determine his exact diet). Another need is financial support to travel to and from Boston frequently.

We are capable of managing these needs, but we recognize how many of you have a heart for wanting to be a part of supporting us in this time. That could mean a donation, a prayer, sharing your story, or just dropping us a note of encouragement. We greatly appreciate the support and the community you offer when life can be so unimaginably hard.

It is important to Nick and me to tell you exactly how donations will be used to help us:

Diet and Supplements ($1,000 plus consults as needed. Supplements are $300 per order).
Nick will work with Jeanne Wallace at Nutritional Solutions as part of his holistic cancer care. Nick will take many supplements and need a specific set of healthy foods as part of this care plan. We have heard from multiple cancer survivors that a low-sugar diet can effectively combat cancers, which need glucose to reproduce. None of these services are covered by insurance, but research has shown that the right foods can create an environment in the body that makes Nick’s body less hospitable to cancer. I will be adopting many of the anti-cancer living diet and lifestyle choices along with Nick too! For anyone interested, we highly recommend reading “Anti-Cancer Living” by Lorenzo Cohen and Alison Jeffries and “Radical Remission” by Kelly Turner.

Groceries ($300 weekly).
We will also use donated funds to buy healthy foods at the grocery store. When shopping is too hard for me, I will get groceries delivered. A lot will fall on me since Nick cannot drive now. I plan to shop organically to support Nick’s diet. I also plan to buy organic or clean products for cleaning and hygiene. I highly recommend checking out the app “EWG Healthy Living” for anyone interested in cleaner and healthy foods and products.

Travel ($600 per trip to Boston)
Nick’s primary care team will be at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, MA. We will be going at least every two months for his initial treatment and likely more often if the initial drug therapy does not work. In addition, a second surgery in Boston is likely. We will use donated funds for hotels, gas, and food.

Fertility Planning ($30,000).
One aspect of cancer we did not realize would be necessary is fertility planning. These services are not covered by insurance and are very expensive.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your support.
