Two months since the accident and Nick is doing better every day! Today we got to go with his speech and recreational therapists to out to a restaurant for breakfast. Scottie and I passed the “test” and have been given a “push pass” so we can walk and push Nick in a wheelchair outside of Shepherd!! Woo who! It may not sound like much but it feels like a very big step toward independence and freedom for us!

The therapists at Shepherd are incredible and we are so thankful to be here. We miss home but know this is exactly where Nick needs to be right now. I hope none of you are ever in a position where you or a loved one needs catastrophic care but if you are, this is the place to go.

It’s not a sprint it’s a MARATHON.

We’re leaving on a jet plane️! Insurance came through for Shepherd Center! Nick and I will leave the hospital at 7:30am tomorrow morning and take a medical jet to Atlanta!! Nick will be admitted straight into the rehab clinic- which is amazing!!! He walked with assistance 18 feet this morning! He is still not talking but he is giving more nonverbal responses and responding to commands and staying conscious for longer periods!! We are starting to pack up his hospital room and Scott and I will head home tonight to pack up the car that Jake and Scott will drive up tomorrow for the next chapter of his recovery!

The staff at SMH have been outstanding! We will miss them something fierce and cannot wait to be able to walk back in with Nick when he is able to thank them himself!

Thank you all for the prayers and well wishes!! Mountains are moving… it is just amazing. We are well aware of how challenging the road ahead may be but we are also so filled with gratitude to have the opportunity to travel it with Nick!❤️
