Support Nick Zubeck's recovery from a serious head injury

This GoFundMe is in support of our friend Nick Zubeck, a Canadian musician who was recently on tour, playing bass with the band Great Lake Swimmers, in Nashville, Tennessee. On the night of March 11th, Nick was crossing the street when an out-of-control cyclist, likely intoxicated, ran a red light and blasted through the intersection full of pedestrians. The cyclist hit Nick hard, which threw Nick into the road.

Nick landed on his forehead, on concrete, and was knocked unconscious. The impact caused severe injuries and brain hemorrhaging. Nick sustained two skull fractures, including one that’s perilously close to his optic nerve and nearly cost him his vision in his right eye.

Luckily his vision will return, and even more lucky, he doesn't need the invasive brain surgery that initially looked necessary! Nick is now home recovering in Guelph, and feeling very loved and cared for by his friends' and family’s support. He's so thankful to everyone who has checked in or helped him out with meals and kind wishes.

Now the road to healing starts - but healing from a severe brain injury is a long, slow process. It can take years, and Nick's earning power may be affected for a long time.

Because the accident happened in the US, Nick is also facing a $52,000 USD hospital bill from his stay and care at Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville, with no coverage - not to mention possible legal bills in the future.
