Support Nico During Tragedy and Through Recovery

Winters are rough, especially when disaster strikes.

Late December while leaving work one night Nico was walking out of the building to go home for the night when she was struck by a car. The driver did not stop, even after hitting another pedestrian, as she held onto the hood of the vehicle she tried smacking the hood to get the driver's attention. After about 30 feet of being dragged along, both pedestrians fell backward onto the ground, the tire luckily did not roll over her foot but it struck and pressed it, a painful "pop" was felt on impact, and a second after hitting the ground, followed by a third when attempting to stand. Palms bleeding, shins bruising, but luckily alive.

Paramedics were called and medical attention was sought.

Sustaining a sprained ankle which led to reconstructive surgery to repair the torn tendons and ligaments; sprained neck; torn labrum (which may need surgical repair); as well as postconcussive syndrome and so many other physical ailments.

Sadly more tragedy followed closely behind.

Two weeks after the first incident after leaving the dentist's office she was about to head to work and was crossing an intersection when her car was t-boned by another driver. The car spun out and ended up in a snowbank on the side of the road luckily no one else was involved, but her car was totaled.

Afterward, she was fired from her job, they deemed the reason "too many unexcused absenteeisms" even though she had been submitting doctor's notes, schedules, and was working out things with management to still make it to her appointments as well as work.

She tried to apply for unemployment assistance but was denied.

Now with no job, no car, the loss of her physical abilities, and surgery looming around the corner, she is doing what she can to recover and survive.
