Support Ninah & Mike After Palisades Fire

Dear friends, family, and community,

I’ve created this GoFundMe in support of two incredible people, Ninah and Mike Bishop. They tragically lost their home in the devastating Palisades Fire, which ravaged through Malibu— and their beloved neighborhood of Carbon Beach. A place they cherished deeply.

As Ninah's mom, it is with a heavy heart that I share this news, along with their story of loss and resilience.

On the night of the fire, Mike and Ninah, along with their friends, spent hours trying to protect the property. However, the relentless winds and flying embers eventually became too overwhelming. In the middle of the night, Mike and Ninah managed to escape safely with their 14-year-old dog, Haiti, and their 10-year-old cat, Haze. Taking only a few sentimental items, some cameras and hard drives, and a few bags of clothing. Shortly after their escape came the unbearable news that Ninah and Mike's beloved home had burnt to the ground. To make matters worse, they have discovered their insurance would not cover the vast majority of their losses.

Ninah & Mike had been in their Malibu home since 2020, where they laid down deep roots in their adored community. Mike is a Motion Graphics artist, filmmaker, spear-fisherman & surfer. Ninah worked in the Palisades village, and it was her lifelong dream to live on Carbon Beach. This is where the couple could be seen every morning- carrying their senior dog down to the shore & collecting sea glass. Ninah, who considered Malibu her heaven on earth, designed her life & identity based on her love of Malibu and its people. She was active in the community, volunteering in children’s ministry at Malibu Pacific Church. They spent their time sharing Mike's freshly caught seafood with locals & neighbors, riding their e-bike along the beach, and capturing the spirit of Malibu through photography. One of their greatest joys was renovating and upgrading their small home, which was a constant source of inspiration. It was the place they dreamed of raising a family and never leaving.

Mike lost a lot of cameras, drones, and computer equipment critical to his work and passions, along with his spear-fishing gear. Ninah lost her lifetime collection of artwork, treasures, fashion, and furnishings. She is a graduate of FIDM and has financed much of her education, so she was working diligently- attempting to pay down student loans while curating a home of comfort. Since nothing was recoverable, and their insurance isn't adequate to cover their losses, they will need to rebuild everything from the ground up.

Asking for help is not in their nature, but this overwhelming tragedy has left them in need. This is even more dire since learning that Ninah has now also lost her job due to the destruction in the Palisades Village. The cost to rebuild their lives and find new housing will be significant. Your support of this amazing couple will help them overcome this tragedy, and get back on their feet through this fund.
