Support Northern Cambria's Ball Field Restoration

On Friday, August 9th, 2024, Northern Cambria Borough saw the worst flooding our town has seen since the great flood of 1977. One of the areas hit hard by this flooding was our South Complex/Ball Fields. Much of our fencing was leveled, including part of our backstop on field 3. One of our dugouts on that same field was destroyed. Northern Cambria Softball Baseball (NCSB) had just updated our batting cage and pitching warm-up areas at field 2 with turf. All of which was damaged. Infield mix and pea gravel in our dugouts have washed away.
Some of us were at the South Complex that same morning, taking inventory of the damage we could see, and cleaning up where we could. We saw how many people came down to see the state of our fields. We saw the shock when people saw how bad things were. We felt that with all of you, because we all care about these fields. They are the heart of our ball community, and beyond.
We have reached out to our county commissioner with no luck in receiving monetary help. We've also reached out to other local elected officials, to look into any funding or relief aid that might be available to help us undo the damage this flooding has caused. This will take more than our small groups to tackle. While these ball fields sit in the Borough of Northern Cambria, many surrounding communities depend on these fields being in good shape. Our school district (which covers Northern Cambria Borough, Susquehanna Township and Barr Township) use these fields for their softball and baseball teams. In previous years, the Heritage Conference has also been held at this facility.
Many of us with the Northern Cambria Recreation Commission, Northern Cambria Softball Baseball, sponsors, donors and other volunteers have put a lot of time, labor, and money into this complex. To see it all washed away overnight is heartbreaking, frustrating and even a little defeating. However, we cannot let this defeat us! This is when we need to come together, be PROACTIVE and show each other that we can weather the storm. For our community. For our kids. For NC!
Please consider making a donation to help the Northern Cambria Recreation Commission and Northern Cambria Softball Baseball restore our South Complex/Ball Fields so that our kids can look forward to a fun, safe and successful 2025 season! We will also be coordinating multiple clean up days to remove debris from the facility so contractors can get in and repair/replace anything damaged. Please follow us for further information.
