Support Nuna Trio's Soulscapes Project

Donation protected
Nuna Trio - that’s Marie from Germany, Yamileth from Ecuador, and Julian from Colombia. We are currently pursuing our master’s degrees at Western Michigan University. With the unusual combination of instruments -saxophone, flute, and piano- we seek to open new worlds of sound that transcend musical, cultural and ethnic boundaries. Soulscapes is our first project as an ensemble and it musically explores the versatility of emotions.

We are humbly asking for you support in raising $4,000 - a portion of the total amount to realise this project. Funds will go directly toward paying the six compositions that are commissioned for Soulscapes as well as the fees for a professional recording.

Concert format
In a sixty-minute concert, the audience embarks on a musical journey through six pieces, each dedicated to a specific emotion. Through various stage lighting, unconventional seating arrangements and other creative elements, a safe space will be created for the attendees to engage with the emotions that the music may evoke and at the same time experience that feelings are transient and no state lasts forever.

Community connection
The project will tour various community venues in Kalamazoo, extending the reach of live music to audiences who do not normally attend concerts. Following each performance, attendees are invited to engage in a dialog, facilitated by the shared experience of music. Through this initiative, the project aims to foster deeper connections and meaningful conversations within these communities that go beyond everyday interactions and support a more cohesive and inclusive social fabric.

Pedagogical concept
Soulscapes will also extend its reach to schools, where students have the opportunity to engage with excerpts from the program. The approach will be tailored to the different age groups. For primary school children, activities may include painting pictures to express emotions or embodying them through movement. With older students, the music means to encourage reflection and discussion about emotions. The aim is to nurture emotional intelligence and enrich students’ understanding of music and themselves.

Compositions will be delivered by:
Spencer Arias (USA)
Kristopher Bendricks (USA)
Ludsen Martinus (Colombia)
Ati Cachimuel (Ecuador)
Benjamin Janisch (Germany)
