Support NYC Mission: Help Us Serve the Needy
Donation protected
Hello all. This October, my son and I have the chance to go down to NYC and serve with an incredible team of people at the New York School of Urban Ministry, or NYSUM. Below, I have taken the description from their website on their ministry and what they do.
Why Short Term Missions in New York City?
Massive Population – NYC has a population of approximately 8.3 million people, which is roughly half of the whole NY state! It is roughly equivalent to the combined populations of Los Angeles, Chicago, and Houston.
Ethnic diversity – New York City is considered one of the most diverse cities in the world. Approximately 60% of the city’s population is comprised of foreign ethnic groups, and 650 languages are spoken here.
Homelessness & Poverty – Around 14% of the U.S. homeless population resides in NYC. Nearly one in every 106 New Yorkers is homeless; that’s nearly 80,000 men, women, and children. Every night, nearly 4,000 people sleep on the street, in the subway system, or in other public spaces.
Pandemic Relief – As a result of the devastation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the rise of needy and hurting New Yorkers has skyrocketed since March 2020.
Examples of NYSUM Outreaches:
Blessing NYC’s homeless who are living on the city streets.
Food truck Ministry
Soup Kitchens & Food Pantries
Evangelism, Prayer Stations & Open Air Street Meetings.
Reaching At-Risk Kids – Clowns, Puppets, Music & Drama
Prayer Walks – Over the Brooklyn Bridge, 9/11 memorial, Muslim Mosques, and more.
Cross-cultural outreaches in Hispanic, Afro-Caribbean, Muslim & Jewish communities
All in, it will cost us $400 per person to go. So, I am seeking $800 total to cover the cost. The money covers transportation to and from NYC and room and board while staying at the school. Please give whatever you can and thank you.
