Support Ocean Heroes Affected by Hawaii Wildfires!

Dear Supporters of Ocean Conservation,
As devastating wildfires sweep through Maui, our hearts ache for the loss and destruction that has left communities shattered. Amidst this tragedy, we must come together to support those who have been impacted the most, including our Ocean Conservation heroes who have been tirelessly safeguarding our marine environment.
Solomon Pili Kahoʻohalahala, fondly known as "Uncle Sol," is a seventh-generation native Hawaiian from the island of Lānaʻi. Uncle Sol has been a key driving force behind the Papahānaumokuākea Marine National Monument, working diligently to ensure its preservation for generations to come.
Another dear colleague, Edwin “Ekolu” Lindsey co-founded Polanui Hiu, a community-managed grassroots movement working to restore marine resources and traditions once practiced within the ahupua’a (land division) of Polanui in Lāhaina.
This week, their world has been turned upside down. The wildfires have destroyed Uncle Sol family's cherished ancestral home, a repository of memories spanning generations. The home in which Ekolu lived with his family and everything inside of it is now completely gone. We are grateful to hear everyone made it out safely.
Like many others, Uncle Sol and Ekolu now face the daunting challenge of living with the consequences of the fire. It's our turn to rally behind those who have stood as guardians of the ocean. Let's extend our support to Uncle Sol, Ekolu, and others like them who need immediate resources for shelter and the eventual rebuilding of their homes.
Our Hawaiian colleagues have always been steadfast advocates for our oceans, and now it's our turn to stand by them in their time of need.
We have launched this GoFundMe campaign with a starting goal of $10,000. This fund will directly assist Uncle Sol, Ekolu, and other colleagues like them. Every donation, no matter the size, will contribute to providing relief and hope.
How You Can Help:
Donate: Your financial support will make a tangible difference in the lives of those affected. Even a small contribution can have a big impact.

p.s. The six of us are conservation professionals who have all worked with Uncle Sol and Ekolu in some capacity over the past many years. The funds will be used to cover the needs and expenses of Sol, Ekolu and their families as it relates to recovery from the wildfires, including temporary housing, rental of a vehicle if one was destroyed, food, and potentially restoration of the homes lost (if their families decide on that). All funds raised will be transferred directly to Uncle Sol and Ekolu and divided equally between them.
