Support Officer Bradford's Road to Recovery

Donation protected
Officer Hali Bradford was shot in the line of duty on August 5, 2023, while responding to a domestic disturbance. Officers forced entry into the structure after hearing a woman screaming, from what sounded like her life was in grave danger. Upon entry, the suspect retreated to a bedroom, during this time Officer Bradford and other officers were attempting to evacuate the structure, separating the innocents from the suspect who stated he was going to kill them all. While evacuating the residents, the suspect appeared from the bedroom where he fled, bearing a semi-automatic rifle (.223), and began to open fire on the officers and the innocents.

Officer Bradford was immediately injured, taking a single round to her right buttocks, rendering her paralyzed from the waist down, causing her to fall to the floor. While the suspect continued firing his weapon, Officer Bradford was able to drag herself out of the structure into the yard where she found concealment, trained her service weapon on the front door, and relayed to her partner that she believed she was “hit”. Shortly after, she went unconscious and was pulled out of the yard to the sidewalk. She was then transported by another officer to the ER where she was treated for the injury sustained, nearly causing her to die. She underwent over six hours of surgery and has since been recovering.

Nearly 10 months later, Officer Bradford is still recovering and her left foot remains partially paralyzed from a severely damaged nerve in her pelvis as a consequence of being shot. She has found a doctor in Lake Charles, LA, at the Neurosolution Center of Lake Charles, Dr. Kyle Daigle, who specializes in injuries that Officer Bradford suffers from. She went for her first week of treatment in June and has since regained partial movement, more progress than she has made with any other treatment over the healing process. An anonymous donor graciously paid for the first week of therapy.

To continue treatment, Officer Bradford will be required to pay out of pocket, totaling about $1500-2000 per week, with continued treatment for at least a year, if not longer. She and her husband are officers at the same department, and worker's compensation does not cover the treatment, which can be costly on a police officer’s income. They have had to pay out of pocket for at-home therapy devices after one week totaling approximately $5500, and there are still other home devices to be purchased aside from the above-mentioned cost for the weekly visits to the doctor’s office.

Officer Bradford has made a miraculous recovery after nearly dying three weeks after her wedding and two days before her 25th birthday. She would like to continue her journey in growing her family, becoming the competitive CrossFit athlete she once was, and eventually returning to full duty as a police officer to continue to do what she loves, serving and protecting the citizens of her city.
