Help Officer Brody Kapellen Recover from Polymyositis and Steven Johnson Syndrome

Dear Friends and Community Members,

We are reaching out to you today to support Officer Brody Kapellen, who has been facing a challenging battle with Polymyositis and Steven Johnson Syndrome. Brody, a dedicated member of our Edgerton Police Department and a beloved School Resource Officer, has shown incredible strength and resilience throughout his ordeal.

In March, Brody suffered a fall at work which led to the discovery of Polymyositis, a condition affecting his muscle groups, leaving him wheelchair-bound with limited mobility. During his recovery, he experienced a severe reaction where his immune system attacked his skin, resulting in extensive second-degree burns covering over 30% of his body. He endured a lengthy hospitalization in the UW Burn unit and subsequent treatment for pneumonia at Meriter hospital.

Brody’s determination to return to his role at the school has been his driving force throughout his long and arduous recovery. Despite the remarkable healing of his skin, he continues to face challenges, particularly with his vision, necessitating multiple cornea membrane transplants and leaving him with very limited eyesight as well as redeveloping his muscle mass. He is currently able to walk but has a long journey in therapy to strengthen his muscles.

Since his diagnosis, Brody has been using his sick time banked in his retirement time to cover expenses, but these resources are nearing depletion. We are turning to our community to ask for your support during this critical time. Your donations will help cover his ongoing medical expenses, rehabilitation costs, and support his family until he can fully recover and hope to return to duty.
