Support Officer Matthew Yao's PTSD Recovery
Donation protected
This is a fundraiser to help my son, Matthew Yao, who worked for the Thornton, NH, Police Department, to obtain new treatment for his PTSD, as his years of therapy, psychiatric help, EMDR, group therapy and more than a dozen different meds have been ineffective. Unfortunately, the new treatment is not covered by his insurance and all treatment was denied by Workers Comp.
Please help a man who has served and sacrificed his whole career, having developed a reputation as a passionate, honorable, and caring Police Officer by donating whatever you can spare to help restore our son back to the vibrant and healthy husband and father that he once was.
More details below:
On October 19, 2020, Matt was involved in a tragic Officer Involved Shooting where he was forced to defend himself with lethal force. He was the lone officer responding to a medical call, where he was requested to secure the scene but ended up in a “suicide by cop” incident.
Matt had been developing a good rapport with the man for several months, trying to help him whenever they met. The man even told Matt that he was his favorite cop. Matt had often been the only person who could deescalate the man as he had already done so twice the same day as the shooting.
Unfortunately, this event left my son suffering from clinically diagnosed PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder). Over the past three and a half years, Matthew has suffered from severe depression that has been diagnosed as Major Depressive Disorder, anxiety, insomnia, sleep terrors, and night sweats. I have watched my son go from a vibrant, energetic, and happy family man to someone who has lost his zeal, energy, and passion for life.
After years of ineffective psychiatric care, various therapies and over a dozen different meds, we need to try a more advanced treatment called, ketamine therapy, which has been used with great success to treat what is otherwise treatment resistant PTSD and major depression. Unfortunately, his insurance doesn't cover this treatment. We have exhausted our resources trying to get him successful help.
Again, every bit will help to bring Matt back to some semblance of who he was.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
