Support Organizer & Father with Vehicle Purchase
Donation protected
Hello friends & family! We're raising funds for one of our friends and fellow organizers, Sherrif, who's been fighting to end the criminalization and imprisonment of young people across Illinois. He always shows up for his people and family, and now we're looking to pour some support back into him, specifically so he can purchase a car to take care of his family and five kids. Any amount helps! Please share widely.
Here is a bit from Sherrif directly:
What’s up everybody, my name is Sherrif, but I go by Da Greatest—not with T-H-E but with Da, and you’ll never forget the face. I’ve hit a breaking point where I can’t rely on the system anymore.
To our peoples and my peoples only that's with us: Today, I faced a challenge with trying to purchase a car. I came with little funds, that I don't have much of, to put down to drive off with a car. I was asked if I had a co-signer with better credit or who makes more than me. Even with assistance, I was still not able to because their credit was also low and funds were not much. So, with money being a short source, it led to our credit being checked and still not being able to drive off with the car because of lack of funds and bad credit.
Today, I learned the hard way that the credit bureau isn’t helping me out because I don’t have enough credit or funds to meet their standards. I’ve been trying to get a car for the past two months, hitting up multiple dealerships, only to get texts, emails, and phone calls telling me I don’t qualify. It’s wild because I got pre-qualified, but still, I got denied because I didn’t meet their standard requirements.
I’ve been keeping my energy up, trying to stay legit, but the system and these job applications are making it tough. I can’t even get a decent salary to focus on raising our kids right. Normal jobs don’t cut it, and from a business perspective, I still can’t get through. I don’t know how to build credit or make a solid financial history, and it’s holding me back.
I’m losing faith in the system, but I’m calling out to our people. Let’s support each other and rise above this. We need to focus on uplifting our community and finding alternative ways to succeed.
