Support Orlando Magic Dreamers Wheelchair Basketball Team

Tax deductible
Central Florida Dreamplex's Orlando Magic Dreamers Youth Wheelchair basketball team needs your support!

The Orlando Magic Dreamers will begin their second season and expect to have two youth teams this year to compete in the NWBA during the 2024 - 25 season. Our youth team practices Saturday mornings and travels to compete against other wheelchair basketball teams throughout the country. We are fundraising to help support anticipated costs needed to help our teams play this season! Below are anticipated costs for the upcoming season:

  • $1,400 - the cost to register two teams ($700 per team)
  • $5,000 - the cost to play in 3 - 4 tournaments ($400 - 500 per tournament per team), per team and anticipated costs to play in the NWBA national tournament.
  • $1,500 - the cost to purchase custom Orlando Magic Dreamer uniforms for every child for home + away uniforms.
  • $48,000 - the cost to fund basketball wheelchairs for every child on our roster who does not currently have a chair (10 total children do not own their own chairs) (cost of chair: approximately $4800 per chair)
  • $60,000 - the cost to cover travel, hotel and food expenses for the players and coaches for the entire season. We anticipate each family will spend an average of $750 per tournament and aim to play in 3 - 4 tournaments + the NWBA championship tournament.
  • $2250 - the cost to rent the gym for practices for the season ($75 per practice)

We'll also outline a few facts about our team since playing our first season last year:

  • In our first season we had approximately 20 kids who joined us at practices at some point during the season. Eight kids committed to competing on the NWBA team.
  • Our team competed in 3 tournaments in our first season – traveling to South Carolina, Jacksonville and Birmingham.
  • Our team had the #1 prep team in the state of Florida and finished in 21st place out of more than 40 teams!
  • Dreamplex's Orlando Magic Dreamer team is the ONLY youth wheelchair basketball team in central Florida.
  • Our team is coached by professional adult wheelchair basketball player Correy Rossi and his family – including his mother Paulette and sister Courtney. Correy plays competitively in Germany and has played with Team USA. As a family they've committed to supporting our team and encouraging youth players to learn the sport and stay motivated to succeed in school while staying healthy and strong while living with a disability.
  • Last season our coaches helped find support to cover the costs for our youth on the team to attend the University of Illinois wheelchair basketball camp.
  • Six of our players participated in a camp at Lakeshore (Birmingham) and one player participated in a camp at Auburn.

Since beginning to offer adaptive sports in 2019, Central Florida Dreamplex has seen the tremendous opportunity to reach local youth and adults living with disabilities, especially physical disabilities. As adaptive sports programs grow, they are mostly limited by the financial resources to help acquire equipment and support program endeavors. Most families affected by disabilities are already facing hardships and are often unable to purchase their own equipment. They turn to the organization as an outlet to help the youth or adults living with a disability not only compete in sport(s) but also to help them be a part of a community where the person with a disability can remain active and have fun. Central Florida Dreamplex is looking to expand its efforts to offer opportunities like wheelchair basketball to youth and appreciate the support to help continue to grow our program.
