I am reaching out to share Orlani’s story. Orlani is the mother of my husband's niece, a 43-year-old, single mom with an only daughter, 19 years old, who receives treatment for juvenile myoclonic epilepsy.

On November 2023, Orlani thought she was going to the hospital for a routine exam after she felt a lump in her left breast. After several exams, on March 12, 2024, the medical team found infiltrating ductal carcinoma in her left breast, Her2 positive.

Orlani is facing a challenging journey ahead, including the treatment, surgery, and chemotherapy. While the road is long and tough, we are confident that Orlani will win.

Orlani lives in Venezuela, earning $20 monthly. She doesn’t have insurance that covers her treatment. She urgently needs her first treatment with paclitaxel plus "TRASTAZUMAB" (this is the expensive one at $1,700 each ampoule) then every 21 days for a period of one year, for a total of 18 ampoules. Only for these ampoules, she needs $30,600.00

The upfront out-of-pocket expenses are beyond her means and the financial burden of her medical treatment is enormous, combined with the difficult financial, medical, political, and social situation that exists in the country.

The physical, emotional, and financial toll on Orlani has been immense. She lost her mom 6 years ago and her dad 3 years ago to cancer, but she said: she is so lucky to have so many loved ones in her life.

Quiero compartir la historia de Orlani. Orlani es la madre de la sobrina de mi marido, una madre soltera de 43 años con una única hija de 19 que recibe tratamiento para la epilepsia mioclónica juvenil.

En noviembre de 2023, Orlani pensó que iba al hospital a hacerse un examen rutinario tras notar un bulto en el pecho izquierdo. Tras varios exámenes, el 12 de marzo de 2024, el equipo médico descubrió un carcinoma ductal infiltrante en su mama izquierda, Her2 positivo.

Orlani se enfrenta a un arduo camino por delante, que incluye el tratamiento, la cirugía y la quimioterapia. Aunque el camino es largo y duro, confiamos en que Orlani vencerá.

Orlani vive en Venezuela y gana 20 dólares al mes. No tiene seguro que cubra su tratamiento. Necesita urgentemente su primer tratamiento con paclitaxel más «TRASTAZUMAB» (éste es el caro, a 1.700 dólares cada ampolla) y luego cada 21 días durante un periodo de un año, para un total de 18 ampollas. Sólo para estas ampollas necesita 30.600 dólares.

Los gastos iniciales de su bolsillo están por encima de sus posibilidades y la carga financiera de su tratamiento médico es enorme, combinada con la difícil situación financiera, médica, política y social que existe en el país.

El desgaste físico, emocional y económico de Orlani ha sido inmenso. Perdió a su madre hace 6 años y a su padre hace 3 a causa del cáncer, pero dice: es muy afortunada de tener tantos seres queridos en su vida.
