Osny and his family need our support! Many of you know Osny from his role as the lead plaintiff in Kidd v Mayorkas, a lawsuit challenging ICE's use of deception and other illegal tactics to arrest people in their homes. Osny bravely stepped forward to challenge ICE's unconstitutional practices to ensure that no other community members are subjected to such cruel and abusive tactics.
But now Osny needs our support. Recently, while undergoing routine medical treatment, doctors discovered that Osny has a rare autoimmune disease which causes his antibodies to attack his nerve cells causing paralysis and muscular weakness. By the time Osny was properly diagnosed, his antibodies were attacking his lungs and he was placed on a ventilator and admitted in the ICU (intensive care unit) where he has been since NYE 2023. Currently, there’s no estimated timeline for how long Osny will remain in the ICU.
As a result of this autoimmune disease, Osny has experienced loss of mobility in his arms and legs; and, even when released from the hospital he will require extensive rehabilitative care (at least a year’s worth). Osny’s will also not be able to return to work for at least the remainder of this year.
Osny and his partner recently moved to New Jersey. Osny, had just started a new job at a hospital in New Jersey and unfortunately fell ill one week before he would have qualified for disability and/or medical leave. His family now faces significant financial challenges from Osny’s medical care, and future rehabilitative care, and the loss of his support.
As the eldest, Osny has always been the rock for his family and a role model to his younger siblings. He has also financially supported his family. He radiates so much love and joy; and is deeply loved by all that meet him! He is a loving husband, son, brother, best friend, and nurse!

Osny has been a fierce, and beloved, advocate for immigrants’ rights. Osny is one of the lead plaintiffs in a class action lawsuit challenging ICE agents’ unlawful practice of impersonating the police or probation (or the use of other ruse tactics) to enter the home under a claim of consent or lure the individual out of their home. Osny and his family were subjected to this cruel practice when one October morning, at 6 a.m., while his family was sound asleep there was loud banging on the door and someone yelling “police!” His mom rushed to the front door and found three uniformed officers who informed her they were investigating a dangerous criminal and that the family was in danger. ICE officers tricked his family into allowing the officers into their home, so that they could arrest Osny and try to deport him (despite him being, at the time, a Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals recipient). Osny filed a lawsuit to challenge ICE’s unlawful tactics, and was joined by two community based organizations – Inland Coalition for Immigrant Justice (ICIJ) and the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights (CHIRLA). They and their members, like Osny and his family, experienced firsthand the harm of ICE’s unlawful tactics. For more about his case, see: https://www.aclusocal.org/en/cases/kidd-v-mayorkas
Osny was also a witness in a separate class action lawsuit, Novoa, et al. v. The GEO Group, challenging forced labor conditions in the Adelanto Detention Center due to GEO’s use of detainee labor to maximize its own profits, paying detainees just $1 per day to maintain and operate the facility.
Osny has since been granted permanent resident status.
