Help the Howard-Jones Family Relocate
For the past five years, our aunt and uncle have operated a small business called CBJ Delivery Service. Their mission has been to provide fresh food and household items to formerly homeless veterans and their families in the Philadelphia tri-state area. Through their dedicated efforts, they have positively impacted the lives of over 3,000+ veterans, ensuring they have access to nutritious food and essential household supplies. Their commitment to this cause has not only provided much-needed support but has also fostered a sense of community and stability for those transitioning to a new chapter in their lives.
CBJ began serving homeless veterans at the request of a not-for-profit organization dedicated to housing them. When my cousin and I were between jobs, CBJ provided us with enough work to stay afloat. This experience allowed us to witness firsthand the profound impact CBJ had on veterans and their families. We felt blessed to provide these well deserving people with essential items needed for daily living. Often, the veterans, who had endured significant hardships, were moved to tears by the support they received, overwhelmed by the kindness and generosity shown to them.
Our aunt and uncle worked tirelessly to ensure the veterans’ needs were met. Even during the COVID-19 pandemic, and at great risk to their own health, they delivered food and other essentials to veterans who were temporarily housed in hotels throughout Philadelphia, New Jersey, and Delaware.
Unfortunately, the organization CBJ partnered with came under new management, and the decision was made to discontinue using CBJ’s services without informing them. This past February, orders began to dwindle, and our aunt and uncle exhausted their savings trying to keep the business afloat. Despite their best efforts, CBJ ultimately went out of business.
Now, these two generous and hard-working people are facing homelessness because they can no longer afford their rent. Although they each have small retirement pensions, it is not enough to cover their rent and living expenses in the United States. They desire to relocate to the continent of Africa, where the cost of living is considerably lower.
Relocating will:
• Allow them to build a small house on a plot of land they already
own in Bugesera, Kigali, Rwanda.
• Ensure their ability to be self-sustaining by growing their own food
and raising a few small animals.
• Help them live out their senior years in relative comfort and safety.
How You Can Help
We are seeking your generous support to raise $100,000 to cover the costs associated with moving services, temporary storage, airfare, land clearing, and temporary housing while building a small home on their land.
The funds will be used for:
• Relocation expenses, including airfare.
• Clearing the land and building a small home.
• Planting food and acquiring animals.
• Temporary housing until their permanent home is complete.
Every donation, no matter the size, brings our aunt and uncle closer to securing a place they can afford and where they can be self-sustaining.
Your contribution will make a significant difference in helping them start a new chapter in their lives and we thank you for your kindness and generosity.
Sincerely,
Khalyima Greenfield & Ernest King
