Help us Expand Our Weekly Feedings: LET'S END HUNGER NOW!

Donation protected
Soul Food to the People is a registered 501 (c) (3) nonprofit based out of Brooklyn, New York. Our mission is to provide food insecure New Yorkers with a dining experience that they can not only depend on, but look forward to, week after week!

Since 2020, we've provided 218,386 and counting meals made with love to food insecure New Yorkers. Every week, we serve free, restaurant style meals to food insecure New Yorkers, and every week, our supplies run out. Our vision is that we can provide enough meals every week to feed every hungry New Yorker who comes to our site. In order to make this happen, we're fundraising for:

Our immediate priority:
(a) Funds to help us provide more meals at our weekly feedings. Currently, our partner Rethink Food provides $5 in funding for each free meal we serve, but this generous donation does not cover the full cost of each meal, which is around $10. Therefore, each $5 donation we receive helps us provide one additional meal to a hungry New Yorker.

Our next priority:
(b) Support for our annual Community Supermarket. Donations also help fund our annual community supermarket: each Holiday Season, we spread love by hosting a free food supermarket for New Yorkers experiencing food insecurity, complete with a clothing and toy drive.

Further Down the Line:
(c) Help us repair our food delivery van
Our ultimate goal is to expand our efforts to distribute free, restaurant-style food in each Brooklyn neighborhood that is severely impacted by food insecurity. It is our vision that every hungry Brooklyn resident can look forward to Saturdays, knowing they have delicious food and good company waiting for them at their local Soul Food to the People food distribution center. Currently, we are working towards repairing our food delivery van, which is out of commission, to allow us to reach as many people as possible.

A bit about us:

Growing up in Brooklyn, our owner and founder Katie would spend hours in the kitchen with her late Grandma, Peaches, cooking home-cooked soul food for their family and their neighbors. Katie was raised to believe that food is love, and spreading this love through providing warm, comforting meals became her life's mission. She opened Katie O Soul Food in 2014, just a few blocks from her childhood home. In the nearly 10 years since the restaurant opened, they've gained a reputation both for their delicious home-cooked soul food and for the warm, loving community that you’ll find at Katie O’s.

In March 2020, the number of hungry New Yorkers surged, and Katie and her team sprang into action. As the restaurant was closed during the New York government lockdown, Katie converted Katie O’s into a food bank, soup kitchen and meals on wheels, delivering free home-cooked food by any means necessary. To this day, we continue to feed the people and spread love, it's the Brooklyn way!
