Amy's Story
In October 2023 as Amy entered her final year of midwifery training, she started feeling pains in her jaw and experienced a loss of hearing on one side. Her symptoms rapidly worsened and after a number of tests, Amy received the devastating news that at 32, she had cancer. In her own words, from this point on her “life was hijacked by cells behaving badly” and she was diagnosed with a rare aggressive soft tissue cancer called Rhabdomyosarcoma - a cancer that grows quickly, and is often found in more difficult-to-treat body parts than others.
Since then, Amy’s world has been turned upside down with surgery, countless hospital appointments, 28 gruelling rounds of radiotherapy, and ongoing chemotherapy. In October 2024, following a year of intensive treatment - a biopsy and scan confirmed a recurrence of the disease, and she’s now been given a stage 4 diagnosis. Treatment moving forward will mostly be trying to maintain and control it as much as they can.
If you are lucky enough to know Amy, you will know she’s one of life’s rare gems - a joyful, selfless and incredibly kind and caring person. Despite the challenges she’s facing, Amy has kept her incredible strength and optimism, inspiring everyone around her! She recently said “my job now is to just be happy” and I think we can all take a lot from that.
How You Can Help
We know there’s a lot of people who would love to help Amy. The NHS has been incredible throughout her journey, but things have been challenging for her financially, and the intensity of her treatment has meant she’s been unable to work or finish her studies - which is why we need your help!
We want Amy to have the freedom to focus on what matters most - her happiness and health - without worrying about finances when she already has so much to contend with. Your donation will go directly towards helping her afford whatever she needs to bring joy and comfort. Whether that’s a yoga class or coffee when she feels well enough, little luxuries, or more practical necessities - like taxis to hospital appointments.
And the big one - Amy is also planning to get married to her incredible partner Louis in the new year, and we want to help them make it the most special day – one to be remembered!
Whether you’re a friend, family member, or part of her wider community, we invite you to contribute whatever you can to support Amy during this challenging time. Amy has remained fiercely independent throughout her cancer journey, and we know she wouldn’t hesitate to set up something similar for us – to give the many people that want to help her an opportunity to do so.
We have set a target because Go Fund Me insists, but truly any amount we reach will be transformative and gratefully received.
From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you for being part of Amy’s incredible support team. Your generosity means the world to her – and to all of us who love her. ❤️
