Support Our Beloved Friend Red (Trevor)

Donation protected
Our beloved friend, community member, and long-term environmentalist, Red (Trevor Mckelvie), had a life-altering injury during a Save Old Growth protest on June 13th, 2022, in Sidney, BC.

An angry motorist snapped a support board used to support the ladder Red was sitting on. Because of ladder instability, Red fell from a height of approximately 20 feet and shattered his pelvis.

After rushing to the hospital, the doctor assessed that Red's pelvic injury is significant and needs at least 4-hour long high-risk surgery. Besides the complex operation(s), prolonged recovery (6 months to a year), and potential life-long health complications (e.g. mobility and arthritis), financial difficulties are awaiting Red since it is impossible for him to go back to his previous physically demanding carpentry work.

Red has always been passionate about nature conservation and community. He was a volunteer firefighter for many years and went to Fairy Creek to support Canada's biggest civil disobedience movement. He began to get involved in Save Old Growth in April 2022, hoping to protect the last remaining old-growth trees in BC.

His dedication and determination to environmentalism are incredibly admirable and stem from love and care. We are saddened and heartbroken that our dear friend Red is suffering from this tragedy. We are angry and frustrated that our government has failed repeatedly to protect the old-growth forests as they promised to do so, and that heartless people would rather hurt a non-violent environmentalist than care about our future in this unprecedented climate crisis.

Dear friends, families, community members, and concerned citizens, Red and his partner Love (Jadey) need your generous help and support more than ever. We believe together, we can help Red pull through this life-changing tragedy and get back to his beloved community and family as soon as possible.

Your kind donations will go towards medical equipment to help Red walk again and live at home after he is discharged from the hospital as well as transportation to and from medical appointments and physiotherapy.
