Want to join me in making a difference? I´m Camille Hanson, a professional dancer for over 25+ years. Over the past 15+ years I´ve lived in Madrid, Spain where I´ve dedicated my life to producing dance works that generate connection and compassion for our remarkable planet. My choreographies are accompanied by the visual works of Spanish photographer, Juan Carlos Arévalo. Together we fuse dance, image, and video creation into new and experimental works for festivals throughout Spain, Europe, Mexico, and U.S.A. We have participated in a variety of international events such as, UN Summit COP25, Starlite Festival, The 3º Annual Conference for Peace in Jerusalem, Lincoln Center, The University of Stanford, ITEM International Platform for the Performing Arts, TEA Museum of Tenerife, “Spain NOW!” Festival of London, among many others.
We our is a response to an age of environmental breakdown. Our stage creations are committed to inspiring communities to engage in environmental action. Our work is a place for dreams, visions, and connection with the natural world, awakening a desire to heal our broken relationship to our environment and the larger community of life.
So what does a choreographer have to do with the environmental crisis?
Answer: Everything. Art gives birth to imagination. We are currently facing the need to reimagine and completely rethink how we live on the planet. A large part of our current ecological crisis is based on a modern mindset immersed in a mindset of separation. Our dedication to generating connection between ourselves and the natural world is driven by a desire to break down this state of separation and create an ethic of understanding and connection to the earth.
Although we may not have the opportunity to directly stop the exploitation of the natural world, thoughtful and powerful artistic expression can contribute to shifting our consciousness from that of grief, anger and blame to acts of care and rigorous respect for the earth.
As they say, in the end, we will conserve what we love, and we will love what we can connect to, and we will connect to what we can feel.
Art brings feeling and emotions back into our lives.
I´ve put together this fundraiser to help raise support for 2024,- to help keep our work afloat. All donations, however big or small even 1 € ( $1.11 ) make an enormous difference to the survival of our creations which hold an important role in todays environmental awareness and vulnerability.
Infinite gratitude,
Camille x
OBJECTIVES 2024
1. Environmental
• The creation of "Dear Earth" an artistic table book of photographic & poetry. This new project in the making contains page after page of gorgeous images by photographer, Juan Carlos Arévalo, that capture the sensitivity of the moving body in unique natural landscapes in Spain. The images are accompanied by inspirational poetry, memories and reflections written by Camille over the past two years. This book is designed to bring forth empathy and deep connection to our remarkable planet Earth. Printed copies will be available as of August 2024.
2. Educational
• Masterclass designed to directly connect the body to environment, no books, no cognitive discussions, no mental analysis. Through guided improvisations, we explore environmental elements & motifs on the body as a means of strengthening our dancing bodies, our shared community, Earth, and the practice of dance as sacred activism.
3. Performance
• Contemporary dance & audiovisual performances available in two formats: Traditional theater presentations (duration 55 minutes) and Site-specific presentations (25-30 minutes).
