Ivan was killed at 3 years old. Support his family

Ivan Martinez-Alvarado was a beautiful, vibrant 3-year-old in Santa Clara, California, curious about the world and a delight to his family. He saw wonder in everything around him and loved to talk about what captured his imagination, from the names of dinosaurs and geometric shapes to plans for his 4th birthday in August.

On February 20, the unthinkable happened. Ivan was shot in the head and killed while sleeping in his crib. His mother, Lupe, was forced to look on in horror and disbelief, unable to stop her boyfriend from committing this horrific act of hatred and violence. Lupe had tried to protect her son by hiding in his bedroom, but the boyfriend broke into the room and shot Ivan in the head at close range.

Lupe and her family are devastated. The grief of losing Ivan and the horror and senselessness of the murder are completely overwhelming. The murderer is in custody, but due to the criminal investigation , Lupe has had to wait to have Ivan’s body released so a funeral can take place. She must find a new place to live and somehow deal with work and financial worries. On top of all that, she’s expecting a new baby in July. Somehow she has to cope with the knowledge that the father of the baby she is expecting is the murderer of her son.

As friends of the family, we have come together to ask you to help support Lupe as she tries to survive and recover. We’re asking for your generous contributions to help her find a way forward from the nightmare of Ivan’s death.

Your contributions will help cover funeral expenses so the family and community can remember and honor Ivan’s brief life and lay him to rest with love and respect. Gifts beyond our initial goal will be used to help Lupe find another apartment and to cover basic living expenses and trauma and grief counseling. Vicenta Fierros, Lupe’s mom and Ivan’s grandmother, is overseeing the withdrawal and management of funds raised.

There is nothing we can do to bring Ivan back, but we can help Lupe’s family honor his life and start to rebuild their shattered lives.

Lupe había tratado de proteger a su hijo escondiéndose en su habitación, pero el novio irrumpió en la habitación y le disparó a Iván en la cabeza a quemarropa.

Lupe y su familia están devastadas. El dolor por perder a Iván, el horror y la irracionalidad del asesinato son completamente abrumadores. El asesino está detenido, pero debido a la investigación criminal, Lupe ha tenido que esperar a que liberen el cuerpo de Iván para poder realizar el funeral. Debe encontrar un nuevo lugar para vivir y de alguna manera lidiar con sus preocupaciones laborales y financieras. Por si fuera poco, ella está esperando un nuevo bebé que nacerá en julio. Y carga el dolor de que el padre del bebé que espera es el asesino de su hijo.

Como amigos de la familia nos hemos reunido para pedirles su apoyo y ayuda para Lupe mientras intenta sobrevivir y recuperarse. Solicitamos sus generosas contribuciones para ayudarla a encontrar una manera de seguir adelante ante la pesadilla de la muerte de Iván.
