Support After Eaton Canyon Fire

Our family home of over 30 years burned down along with much of Altadena in the Eaton fire. Our family is safe. We are helping our parents with whatever the next phase of their life entails. If you'd like to support us as we begin, any help is so appreciated.

Our dear friend encapsulated our thoughts, experiences and feelings over the past few days:

If you’re looking at this, you’ve asked what you can do to help this week. The past couple days have been surreal and heartbreaking for so many around LA. It feels as if the whole city is grieving and it was impossible to feel, anywhere in the city, that the threat was distant. Everyone knows at least one person who has lost their home.

My best friend Elah, who many of you know or know of and who I’ve known for almost 30 years, lost her childhood home in Altadena. Her parents evacuated late Tuesday night with an overnight bag each. They’d been in that home for 34 years and everything they own is gone. All the things you imagine losing that can be replaced and so, so many things that cannot including family heirlooms all the photos of her childhood with her brother and sister.

On Wednesday morning after watching the news we learned that our elementary school and the synagogue we grew up going to had burned down. We were tormented with the lack of updates and not knowing what had happened to her house so I decided to drive to Altadena. I didn’t expect to be able to get all the way there but I did and with Elah on the phone realized her house was gone. This is the house I’ve spent the most time at in my life beyond my own childhood home. I’ve had breakfast, lunch and dinner there. I’ve had sleepovers and birthday celebrations there, Hannukah and Passover there, I’ve laughed until I cried and grieved there. There’s been a lifetime of memories in that home.
