Hello, friends. I'm Mira, 12 years old, from the city of Gaza. Today, after more than 140 days, the war continues, and Gaza has been destroyed. My family and I moved to live in Khan Younis for a while before being chased by shells again, finding ourselves in Rafah, the southernmost city in the Gaza Strip.
Unfortunately, the scenario repeats itself, and the destruction persists. We emerge from the rubble to find ourselves, my family and I, time and time again, pursued by death and fear. My cousin, more frightened than most, often can't sleep at night, terrified by the sounds of continuous bombing. I always hear my aunt's whispers reassuring him that the bombing is far away, assuring him that we are safe.
Then one day, we woke up to find rubble and shattered glass above our heads. It was four in the morning, chaos and panic filled the air, with neighbors screaming around us. Black dust warned us that the disaster was great , and among this chaos was the voice of our mother calling for us to make sure we were okay. Another scene: my cousin's daughter, Zeina, bleeding from her head, while my aunt bandages her wound, saying, "You're fine ." We waited until morning to realize we were indeed okay, as if we were born anew. Sadly, this scene repeats itself many times, as we seem to be waiting for our turn to be the next victims of everything around us.
I don't want to remember what happened, and I don’t want to hear the sound of screaming around us again. All I want is peace and to return to school, to our normal lives, to play with my siblings and cousins, to experience joy again.
In a small room, both our families sleep, displaced in a small place that doesn't resemble our home at all. There's no water, no medicine, no food. Today, all I want is to live with my brothers and sisters, Rana (9 years old) and the three triplets, Nabil, Mohamed, and Maryam (4 years old), and my cousins, Yahya (14 years old), Zeina (12 years old), and Nabil (9 years old). Our beautiful city of Gaza has been destroyed, along with my grandfather's house, my aunt's house, and the family's beautiful chalet. Our schools and the kindergarten, which meant a lot to my younger siblings, have been destroyed. Today, with this ongoing destruction and never-ending war, whose aftermath won't end soon, my family and I search for safety and peace. Please help us to get out of this hell. Unfortunately, the cost of leaving makes us seek someone to fund this journey, which we hope will put an end to our suffering.
The details are many, and the destruction and genocide are greater than can be described in simple words and sentences. Thank you to my mother for helping me write what I feel. Thank you all for understanding and supporting my family. Your support means we can continue our education and achieve my dream of learning English, so I can help those around me and provide treatment for my siblings and cousins. What I most wish for is to live like everyone else, children who have the right to study and play, without hearing explosions and shells. We are not just numbers, and we hope our end won't be a story told by blood.
