We are Shakti Rising - Dylan & Laurencia, dear friends that have devoted our lives to Bhakti yoga - the path of the heart. Since arriving on Salt Spring, two and a half years ago, we’ve had the incredible privilege to uncover and share our spiritual path through the practice of Kirtan - the musical repetition of ancient Sanskrit mantras.

Chanting has personally transformed us from the inside out. It has supported us during times of tremendous challenge and provided deep nourishment for our souls. The practice allows us to touch the infinite love, joy, and peace of our true nature. Having experienced the life-changing effect of Kirtan firsthand, we’ve devoted our lives to sharing this transformative and healing practice.

Why we need your help!

We have arrived at a pivotal point in our journey. We have an incredible opportunity to professionally record our first 4-track EP - with a local music producer, this March of 2023.

This EP will allow us to expand beyond our local community, reaching those in need of comfort and stillness of mind.

Where do these funds go?

Funds go directly toward the cost of EP production. This includes gear rental, additional instruments, and mixing/mastering the project.

The benefits of Kirtan…

Mantra meditation stills the mind, calms and heals our nervous system, and opens our hearts to greater love and compassion. Group chanting empowers us as individuals, allowing for the expression of our unique voice and the connection and support of community.

Our local community involvement…

Since arriving on Salt Spring, we have been actively sharing our practice in different capacities.

We opened the Hanuman Yoga Shala, a small yoga studio from our home space. We welcomed members of the community, providing a safe space to gather, sing, and find solace. When the pandemic prevented us from gathering in person, we streamed our evenings live, making the practice accessible to all.

In April, we hosted a Benefit to raise funds for Ukrainian refugees. We gathered in the barn at Stowel Lake Farm, chanting with 70 locals and raising a total of $3305. This event was particularly moving and heartfelt, as it was amongst the first local events on the island since the restrictions of the pandemic.

We currently lead Kirtan every week in the Barn at Stowel Lake Farm. This is a beautiful community event providing the opportunity to gather, offer our voices, and open our hearts. We invite you with open hearts to experience the joy of this ancient practice, Monday evenings at 7:15PM.
