Dear Friends,

As we have shared with many of you already, the complete devastation caused by Hurricane Helene in our surrounding mountain area is unfathomable. We have lost entire towns and communities from the flooding and mudslides. Many of the hardest hit areas are unreachable by roads from washouts, sink holes and collapsed bridges. There is little to no internet in most places making communication incredibly challenging.

We are called to help, and from our businesses in Blowing Rock, NC we have organized a grassroots team to help establish temporary power, clear roads, repair bridges, carry food, water and supplies via all-terrain vehicles or foot to many. We are clearing paths and powering makeshift community hubs that can shelter families, or homes in little “hollars” that can supply water.

We are utilizing our Northgate electrical crew from Raleigh, Landfill Group heavy equipment operators from Charlotte and a quickly growing a number of local volunteers including many of our staff from The Speckled Trout Restaurant and Outfitter.

Our goal is to aid our communities and other relief organizations with our skilled labor resources. The cost of this work is growing rapidly, already exceeding over $100,000 in expenses. We have fuel, equipment, generators, electrical supplies and the cost of the specialized crews working almost nonstop.

The Build for Good Foundation is the 501C3 arm of our family businesses. In the past we have used this foundation to rebuild homes for those in need. We are now using 100% of the contributions for our Hurricane Helene relief efforts in Western NC, Eastern TN and SW Virginia. Some of the most devastated areas are not being covered by the news media due to lack of awareness and inaccessibility. We are reaching out to you for support. Our goal is to raise $2 million. As shocking as this number may sound, we have years of restoration ahead.
