Help our GPs monitor our high risk people at home
Every GBP 5 or 10 donated will help! Please consider donating your daily coffee cost to help our most vulnerable needing to self-isolate and protect our GPs.
As a result of the COVID-19 crisis, some of our hard-working doctors and emergency care nurses have been working with a company called My Sense who monitor and promote wellbeing, independence and early identification of illness.
The Care Hub Jersey Ltd is run by a Consultant in Emergency Medicine, Dr Kirstie Greig and an ITU nurse who, along with dedicated Jersey GPs including Dr Bryony Perchard have approached My Sense about incorporating new tech that would allow doctors and families of loved ones who are being asked to self isolate to specifically track the course of the disease and help doctors in the early identification of patients who urgently require intervention. New additions include pulse oximetry, respiratory rate and temperature checks culminating in a NEWS score (a universally recognised way to track patient deterioration).
This has three key benefits:
1. The earlier we support the very sick, the greater the chance they have of getting better
2. We can target the precious resource of GPs to the right place without dilution
3. We prevent unnecessary face to face contact & promote social isolation, providing a service that traditionally could only be obtained in person
Our local doctors are trying to get at least 20 kits into the homes of our most vulnerable community members, in the next 2 weeks, costing £3600 per annum per patient.
Our goal is to start the ball rolling and gather data to prove to the States Government with hard numbers and hard facts that this is a simple, immediate and effective way to manage the self-isolation recommendations and protect our loved ones along with our hospital, aged care clinics, health care professionals and GPs (private and public) - we cannot risk those working relentlessly at the frontline of containing COVID-19 to become infected themselves.
Clinicians can monitor COVID-19 requirements and move the initial equipment where and when needed.
For example £3600 per annum pays for 365 days of remote monitoring which can be accessed by 12 people. i.e. One patient has it, then they recover and the system is moved to another patient a month later.
If we can urgently raise the much needed funds to purchase 20 kits, this will treat approximately 60 high risk patients at a cost of approx £40 per patient per day over a course of 3 months. To put this into perspective, 1 day in hospital costs £400+ and a GP call out cost £150 at peak times. That is assuming the crisis goes on for >6 months.
Monitoring is done by using non-intrusive devices around the home, to develop a better understanding of an individual’s movements and habits. This is done by sensors such as wristbands, and fitted onto doors, seats, toilets, showers and beds being installed in the home and on the person being monitored. Alerts notify the individual and their carers and doctors via a MySense Home Hub or, if the situation is more serious, a relevant responder via text message or the MySense app and allows the individual's wellbeing status to be viewed in a simple-to-use dashboard app.
We need to be working together as a community to ease the burden on our GPs and hospital and reassure people who are in isolation that help is on hand 24/7 whilst keeping more people safe in isolation and protecting our health care professionals at the frontline fighting COVID-19.
Thank you to everyone for supporting our Island, our vulnerable people and our incredible health care and other dedicated service providers.

Please note - gofundme deduct 2.9% + 0.25p from all donations received. This is approx. £2000 on our target of £60,000 which is why we have set £62,000 as our target to purchase 20 kits ASAP.
