On 12/4/24 the house I lived in and raised my kids in for 16 years was sold at a sheriff’s auction as it was foreclosed on.
I moved out of the house two years prior due to my ex still living there and he wasn’t willing to leave and let the kids and I be there. We bought the house together almost 19 years ago and were never married and neither of us were in a place to be able to buy the other out so I made the difficult decision to walk away as it was best for us to be on our own.
I moved into my parents old house that is very small and needs so much work. The biggest issue is the electrical which needs to be completed redone as about half of it doesn’t work and hasn’t for many years. We have made the best of it but it has been challenging.
I found out he was losing the house as he hadn’t paid the mortgage in over a year. I called the mortgage company on 12/23/24 and they informed me that the house had already been sold almost two weeks prior and even though my name is still on the mortgage and house and I was not personally notified they said there was nothing I could do about it as it was too late.
That was a rough week for me and I cried a lot! I felt like a failure and so hopeless as I really thought I’d be able to get the house back and was crushed.
My son started doing some research and found the auction paperwork online and also that since the house was over 1/3 paid off that we have a 12 month redemption period to buy the house back. He also found out that the company that bought it is requesting that the redemption period be reduced to 5 weeks. He found the intent to redeem paperwork and I am going to the sheriffs office tomorrow to file it and safely planning we have 10 months to come up with the money.
The amount we need to save in 10 months to get the house back feels overwhelming but we have a plan to start saving money and pitching together to pick up extra shifts.
We would be so grateful for any help we can get. We aren’t the type of people's to ask anyone for help but to pull this off plus pay our current bills, take over the household bills there again, and start repairing both houses as this house needs new walls, new flooring, and some plumbing we are going to need all the help we can get.
If you could donate anything to help us out it would be so much appreciated. While it might not look like much to some, that house was my children’s childhood home and they want to get it back and so do I.
