Support our local grocer
Donation protected
Hurricane Isaias delivered a powerful blow to our community last week. We are still recovering. Power was for many days in Sherman and the surrounding towns. Our local grocer, IGA suffered a great deal. Due to the extensive loss of power, all of the perishable items had to be thrown away. All of those items need to be replaced. More importantly, the deductible on the insurance policy is low 5 figures. I personally know that there is a very low profit margin with respect to grocery stores. It would be devastating to our community if the IGA was not able to recover. Mike will receive all proceeds. Please share the with friends in the community.
Hello Everyone! we have raised a staggering amount as of today, $18,600. I plan to transfer this to Mike's business account tomorrow. I would like to thank everyone for the amazing support. Mike is grateful and was speechless when I spoke to him. I would like to make a note about the ability to list your donation as tax deductible. This is the first fundraiser that I have ever setup. I mis-read one of the pages that talked about making your fundraiser a 501c in order for the donations to be tax deductible. I spoke to my accountant today and told him exactly what I set up, why and that every penny will go into Mike's business account. He felt comfortable with me listing this as tax deductible. However, I am not sure how you will each deal with this. I am happy to refund your donation if you would like. Just email me directly at [email redacted]. I truly apologize to you for this error.Thank you again for supporting Mike during this difficult time. We lost 20 trees, had some roof damage, our dock was destroyed and my husbands boat was totaled. Currently dealing with our insurance company. Sigh. Just grateful that no one was hurt. Be well, Lara
