Support Our Mom's Battle Against Rare Cancer
Donation protected
Hello everyone!
As many of you may know, our mom was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of cancer called “small cell cervical cancer” earlier this year on June 7th. This form of cervical cancer only affects about 1% of women that get diagnosed, and because it is so uncommon, there isn’t much research available to us on how to navigate this journey. We have been extremely grateful to have met an oncologist that was as determined as us to help our mom become cancer-free. Her care plan consisted of a radical hysterectomy, 4 rounds of chemotherapy, and 5 ½ weeks of radiation. Her surgery occurred on 6/20/24 and was a huge success as the doctors were able to remove all visible cancer; however, 2/16 lymph nodes sent in for testing showed signs that the cancer could possibly be spreading. Our mom has fought extremely hard and just recently finished her last round of chemotherapy. Along with this, she only has 3 more sessions of radiation! We can’t be more excited for our mom’s life to feel back to “normal” as much as it possibly can!
As you can imagine, this journey has taken a huge financial toll on our mom as she had been unable to work since mid-June (only returning this month because of threats from her job despite doctors urging her not to return yet), feeling sicker and sicker with each cycle she goes through. Regular expenses still need to be paid as well as the newfound expenses that go with receiving treatment and taking multiple trips to Fort Wayne each month. Along with this, her insurance has denied paying for her surgery, as they do not feel that the doctors followed the correct procedure. Despite many appeals and attempts to change their mind, as little is known about this form of cancer to have a procedure for it, they have kept the same decision leaving the financial burden for our mom.
Please consider sharing and/or donating if you are able. No amount is too small, and every donation is appreciated greatly. Thank you for your generosity and for all of the emotional support that we have received so far! ❤️
