Håfa Ådai!
I’m Lourdez, a queer, non-binary CHamoru artist and parent & I will be making a trip back to my ancestral lands of Guåhan (aka Guam) with my kiddo for an artist residency with 12 other CHamoru artists through a project called MALI’E’!
It’s been over 18 years since I’ve been back, and I’m SO excited to be able to bring my 13-year-old (around the age I was last home) child for his first time to Guåhan, to show him where I grew up and where his grandparents found joy as children too.
Our flight and housing for two weeks are graciously covered through my artist residency!
I am fundraising for expenses while we stay an additional week to visit family, cover up to 2 months of rent and bills, and have extra funds while traveling.
As a full-time independent artist & parent, I am learning that asking for what I need and trusting in community is so important. Thank you for believing in my gifts of art and for supporting my little family on this journey back home. I know my ancestors have made this possible and that you, my community of future ancestors, will continue to help us receive what we need!
P.S. I’ve been crying all week, knowing we’ll be there very soon!
Saina ma’åse’ / thank you so much for supporting our motherland trip back to Guåhan!
