Support Our Park Ave Elementary Youth!!

Hi, my name is Virginia Dearani and I am a parent of a 6th grade student at Park Ave Elementary School in Auburn, ME. Many of the 6th grader students have been together since Pre-K, while many others have joined through the years, from around the world. They have grown up together and will all head to Auburn Middle School next year!

As a way to celebrate their time together over the past 8 years, they do an annual field trip - traveling beyond the city of Auburn to explore other places in Maine. Many of you may not know, but Park Ave houses the Multilingual Program for the city where many of the students who attend the school come not only from Maine, but also from many lands, including Rwanda, France, Syria, Somalia, Angola, Portugal, Ukraine and other countries from around the world. This amazing culturally rich community has provided the students to build lifelong diverse friendships.

Many, if not all, of the students have not had the opportunity to explore other places in Maine. Therefore, for their field trip they have planned a trip to Portland, Maine to watch America's past time of baseball. Portland's Sea Dogs are a Minor League Baseball team based in Portland, Maine, playing in the Eastern League. Established in 1994, the Sea Dogs are the Double-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox!! This will be many students' first time attending a Sea Dogs Game!! The field trip consists of traveling to Portland, via bus, sharing a community meal together and watching the game.

All proceeds raised will support the youth to attend this event and share in one final community gathering before they graduate and head into Middle School! The 6th graders have been actively fundraising this year ~ doing a Read-a-Thon, a Craft and Bake sale, bottle drive, and Hat Day sale. The total amount needed for the trip is $ 2500, so this fund will help them reach their goal.
