Hi, my name is Madalyn Wondra. I am 18 years old and a senior at Fond du Lac High School. I am the owner of Bramble Bee Productions and the director of the Starkid show Twisted: The Untold Story of the Royal Vizier. The performance will be held on June 17th & 18th, 2022.

 

In case you've never heard of this show:

Hop on your flying carpet because this musical parody retells a classic tale... from the villain's point of view! Long ago in a Magic Kingdom, one misunderstood Royal Vizier will go on a quest to save his city from its bumbling sultan, an invading prince, and the most notorious thief ever to live! With the help of the Kingdom's free-spirited teenage Princess, the Vizier must find a magical lamp containing a wish-granting Djinn (who's really funny, by the way) and defeat the city's most-wanted criminal... Aladdin! This musical adventure celebrates and lovingly pokes fun at everyone's favorite series of hand-drawn, animated films. Twisted contains adult language and is intended for an adult audience.

 

I have always wanted to direct a show myself and have saved the money to personally fund it for years. Finally, in December 2021, I pitched my idea to my stagecraft teacher and was given the go-ahead. On January 25th, I purchased the rights to the show. I put together a talented team for vocal direction, choreography, costuming, etc and then held auditions in February 2022. We had a great turn-out and cast a fantastic and excited group of high schoolers. We started rehearsals in mid-February, but first, we asked that each cast member have their parents sign permission slips. We were aware that this show contains adult language, and we wanted parents to be mindful of that.

 

Then the bump in the road... my high school received a complaint about the show from a parent in early April. Even though the high school was not running the show, the school district shut us down regardless of how hard we fought it. We are no longer allowed to rehearse at school or perform at any Fond du Lac school district theatres.

 

This bump in the road won't stop us! On the contrary, our cast and crew are even more determined to perform this show that we have worked so hard on!

 

Therefore, I have secured a new performance space, The Prairie Theatre, on the UWO-FDL campus in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. It is a beautiful space but significantly more expensive than I had budgeted. So that's where you come in! Please donate a little or a lot to help me pay for this new performance space! Any donations are appreciated to help me realize my dream of directing/producing Bramble Bee Productions' first show and bringing this hilarious experience to the audience. Our cast and crew will be forever grateful!
