Support our School Store!

Hello! I am a founding Assistant Principal at The Highbridge Green School. We opened in 2013 as the first public middle school in the Highbridge neighborhood of The Bronx. Highbridge is one of the most historically underserved communities in the country, and also one of the hardest hit by COVID-19. It also happens to be home to some AMAZING 6th-8th graders who work hard every day to get the education they deserve (side note, they shouldn't have to - but that is a discussion for another day!)

As a staff, we work REALLY hard to reward and celebrate our students for making good choices in school and excelling academically, but also for just being great humans in general!

In order to do this, we utilize a daily points system. Students earn points for coming to school, completing work, and demonstrating behaviors that align to our GREEN Values of Grit, Responsibility, Empathy, Enthusiasm and iNspiration.

Students can redeem their points weekly at our school store - and we have even converted our regular school store to a virtual version to continue to incentivize our students' hard work and commitment to their remote learning (not an easy feat as a 12 year old to choose learning over Netflix!). You can check out our Virtual School Store by going here: http://www.highbridgegreen.com/virtual-school-store

Usually, we are able to use school funds to stock the school store, however due to COVID-19, all school spending has been shut down for this year - and what's more, we are facing severe proposed budget cuts next year. According to the Chancellor, we will be able "to keep the lights on and the buildings open, and that's about it!" Here's an article from ChalkBeat.org if you are interested in learning more about this:

As you can imagine, this paints a grim picture of what our school store will look like next year - which is where YOU come in!

The two most popular items in our Virtual School Store right now are books (most of our kids do not have libraries at home) and small donations to charity (yes, our kids want to use their points to donate money to others in need!) - which means we really need some help with funding right now.

For your reference, the average cost of a book is $8-10, and we are donating to charity on behalf of kids who "purchase" this item in units of $5, $10, or $20 - and kids get to choose which charity they would like to donate to!

Anything helps!
