Support Paislee's Family Through This Tragedy

This GoFundMe page is set up to help the parents of our precious Paislee Virginia Nicole Wheeler, the firstborn daughter of Sofia Doucette and Charles Wheeler, who was tragically taken far too soon. The funds will be used to pay for the immense medical expenses and the graceful send off she so deserves.

It’s easy to get lost in sadness and sorrow as we all miss the light of our lives. That will continue for weeks, months and years to come. Unfortunately, the financial burden can last just as long. The full extent of her medical bills is unknown today, but as informed, could easily reach six figures. Any assistance is greatly appreciated to help the family as they deal with the loss of their sweet baby girl.

Friends and family alike have asked what happened to Paislee. We don’t have all the answers but can share this of her last two weeks. On August 7th, Sofia took Paislee to visit their doctor. They believed her behavior may have simply been teething and went home to monitor her progress.

The following day, she was taken to the emergency room, as she had been vomiting all night and was extremely dehydrated. They determined her electrolytes were out of function and kidneys under great stress and were immediately airlifted to Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital in Spokane, WA.

Paislee spent the next week in and out of the PICU surrounded by her family. By mid-week, she was stable and improving but it seemed like it was two steps forward and three steps back. The biggest hurdle she seemingly faced was not being able to flush out any fluids from her body, and there were no definitive answers as to why. Her heart was good and her kidney function had improved back to normal, but the fluids around her abdomen persisted.

Tests continued, as did procedures, and prayers.

Sadly, Paislee was unable to defeat what was attacking her infant body. She passed away early Sunday August 18th, only two short days before her first birthday in the PICU at Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital.

As you can imagine, this has been the most difficult two weeks imaginable for her parents, grandparents, family and friends. In the end, we lost a beautiful baby girl with a full life ahead of her.

Medical bills add up quickly under normal circumstances but airlifting and a specialized hospital stay can be twofold, tenfold, or more. That burden on a young family can be insurmountable.
