Support Patients at EHHOP During COVID-19
Donation protected
**All funds raised will go to patients either in the form of direct cash grants or food deliveries. Funds will not go to operating costs or other programming at EHHOP. This fundraiser is being run independently by student volunteers at EHHOP for the benefit of patients at EHHOP.**
The East Harlem Health Outreach Partnership (EHHOP) is an attending-supervised, student-run free clinic, serving low-income, uninsured residents of East Harlem. In the past two weeks, we have seen a disturbing rise of COVID-related illness in our patients—over 30 of our 300 patients and growing. Our patients are also facing epidemics of lost jobs, food insecurity, difficulty affording rent, and other stresses/traumas.
At the same time many Americans will receive a $1,200 stimulus check from the federal government, but our patients who are undocumented or belong to mixed-status households are excluded from this benefit despite years paying taxes. This systemic exclusion from access to resources is exactly why coronavirus is disproportionately harming folks like our patients.
While we remain committed to providing patients with the best possible care, ensuring the safety and health of our patients during this pandemic only begins with healthcare. That's why we are raising funds directly for patients. All funds raised will go to patients either in the form of direct cash grants or food deliveries.
This support will help make a difference for patients at a time when they need it the most. Yash Maniar, a member of EHHOP's leadership team, will withdraw funds and then distribute as detailed below to either Mottley Kitchen, which is delivering food, or directly to patients. All patients receiving food or cash have been screened for need. Thank you so much for your support!
Cash Grants ($48,000)
We are hoping to support 120 of our patients who have the most pressing social needs and complex medical conditions with $400 each.
Food Deliveries ($23,100)
For $110, we can deliver a weeks worth of groceries to a family. We are hoping to deliver groceries to 30 families per week ($3,300/week) over seven weeks.
**GoFundMe charges a 2.9% fee -- please make sure to set your tip to "Other, $0" so you are not charged additional funds.**
