Stephanie L. Spurgin Memorial Fund Supporting Pecot Labs
Donation protected
My wife, Stephanie, recently lost a five-year battle to metastatic lung cancer. Her life was extended due to a remarkable targeted drug therapy called Tagrisso and the efforts of an incredible oncology team at the University of North Carolina’s Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, led by Dr. Chad Pecot. The time that was granted to Stephanie was truly a gift to our family.
For all of the advances we have made in the fight against cancer, metastasis remains a massive and largely unsolved challenge. Our inability to control metastatic spread is what leads to the death of nearly all cancer patients, including Stephanie. Pecot Labs at UNC Lineberger is steadfastly focused on understanding the complex processes involved in metastasis, with the goal of developing therapeutic strategies that attack its “Achilles’ heels.”
In honor of Stephanie, we are launching a fundraiser to support the work of Dr. Pecot and the talented team at Pecot Labs. I understand that there are many worthy organizations fighting cancer that you may be supporting with your philanthropy. If other groups are your priorities, all I ask is that you continue to give and give generously. We are all in this fight together, and we need all of the time, talent, and treasure we can muster to win. And we must win.
