Support Pedro Lira's Road to Recovery

Hi, my name is Ylone Nadarajah and I live in Mountain Lakes NJ. I am creating this fundraiser for Pedro Lira and his family who I have been fortunate to know over the past 28 years.

On April 3rd, 2024, Pedro who had been extremely active as usual was stricken by sudden paralysis on his left side. He was rushed to the Emergency Room by his wife and son and was found to be suffering from a stroke which was caused by a brain bleed.

He was subsequently transferred to the Intensive Care Unit at Saint Clare's Hospital in Denville where a shunt was put in his brain to stop the bleed and he was intubated and placed on a ventilator to help him to breathe. He remained in the ICU for over 3 weeks and was then moved over to a regular floor for a few days. On April 24th, he was transferred over to Kessler Rehab in Chester.

Fortunately, Pedro has recovered his neurological functions. Pedro's recovery is going to be a long and costly road for the family. He still has considerable weakness on his left side which is why he will need considerable physical rehabilitation.

While they have insurance, their deductible and co-pays are very high. In addition, being that Pedro is self employed, his wages will be non- existent while he is out of work.

The funds collected through this fund raiser will be used to pay for his hospital and rehabilitation bills as well as help his family with some of their day to day expenses. As we all know, medical bills have been known to bankrupt families but we do not want this to happen to this extremely hard working man and his family.

All of us who are fortunate enough to have Pedro in our lives know how kind, hardworking and professional he is. Pedro is a self starter and he is always ready and available to provide his expertise and is a perfectionist to those of us he works with. He loves his family and is always there for those around him.

We consider Pedro to be a part of our extended family. No matter the time of day or night, he is always there to lend a helping hand. Whether it be a celebration like my daughters wedding or an incident where my mom has had a fall, Pedro is one of the first people I call for support. He helped us get wedding ready and helped us make my home wheelchair accessible. Now it’s our time to be there for Pedro and support him on this long road to recovery.

What happened to Pedro could happen to any one of us - life can change in minutes. He was very active and was careful about his diet, but fate dealt him a bad hand on the night of April 3rd!
