Support Peter Okonkwo's Literary Dream in England

A few months ago, my friend, Doug Wheeler helped me organize a GoFundMe Campaign to acquire solar panels for powering my literary work at P English Literature (PEL). Every time I reflect on that campaign, it moves me to tears of gratitude for everyone who contributed. Thanks to you, I have enjoyed uninterrupted electricity ever since. I never imagined I would need to organize another GoFundMe so soon—until I received a life-changing opportunity to pursue my literary passion in England, which comes at a significant cost.
On November 8, I was honored to receive an endorsement under the Global Talent Visa from the Arts Council of England, recognizing me as an “Exceptional Promise” in literature. This endorsement offers me the chance to live and work in England for five years, dedicated to literature. This is an incredible opportunity that I am eager to seize, but the costs involved are substantial. After careful budgeting, I’ve set my GoFundMe goal at $6,637 (approximately £5,175), which covers only the essential health surcharge for the visa. I hope to cover the remaining expenses on my own, with the hope of arriving in England before December.
I never anticipated my literary journey would lead here when I began writing and promoting literature at PEL. I pursued my passion for books and literature despite numerous challenges. Over time, it has grown, attracting writers from the US, UK, Canada, Australia, France, and beyond. Now, I am called to take this leap, leaving behind everything familiar—my family, my beloved, well-equipped office space, and even my treasured bookshelf built with contributions from friends around the world.
While my brother and sister, who assist at PEL, will make great use of the solar panels and library I leave behind, my heart aches at the thought of saying goodbye to the Akure Book Club, which I founded out of frustration at the lack of such a community in our city. Since its inception in May 2024, we’ve grown to over 250 members, and we’re preparing for the city's first book and cultural festival this November. Though I will miss them deeply, I trust in the strong team I’ve built to carry on the vision.
PEL’s commitment to promoting literature remains steadfast, and now, this endorsement offers the chance to expand our reach globally. This is not just for England but for writers worldwide. It’s my passion, my goal, my love, and my dream. Being recognized as an Exceptional Promising Global Talent motivates me to push further. I humbly request your support—your donations, however small, will make an enormous impact. I cannot achieve this alone, but together, we can make it happen. I am eternally grateful for your generosity.
Thank you for considering my request.
Warmly,
Peter Okonkwo
