Play It Again Sports isn't just your typical retail store. We are your neighborhood sporting goods store. We are active in our communities and appreciate how loyal the community is back to us. Many times we are the sole provider for your children's sporting equipment from the moment they step on the field, the ice, on the court...and we continue to be throughout their sports life. We've been there for your fitness needs, your golf game, your summer and winter sports. All of our franchises are family. We take care of each other and back them up. When something happens to one, it happens to us all.
This past Saturday, as looters and rioters took to the streets, they attacked one of our own. What they did was not acceptable. They broke in, started fires and stole merchandise. Some of the video taken and posted on social media showed that the looters were there to just do that, loot and cause chaos.
Play It Again Sports La Mesa is a fairly newer location that was starting to really hit its stride. Dan Buxton is an amazing person, friend and fellow business owner. He did not deserve this to happen to him. Thankfully the fire sprinklers were able to put out the flames before the entire store torched. However, due to smoke and water damage, plus all the looting damage, the place is at a near loss. The costs incurred far outweigh what insurance will cover. He has a long road ahead of him.
Seeing photos and videos over the weekend of the community coming out to help with the clean up was amazing. I hope as a community, we can do more to help. We understand that with everything going in the world today that asking for financial assistance is difficult. However, if we can join together and help this small business owner start the rebuild, a big weight will be lifted. If we are able to exceed our goal, Play It Again Sports La Mesa will be back open sooner than we can imagine to help serve the community they love.
