A new wheelchair for Oskar

Hi, my name is Ram, and I am the Godfather of little Oskar and his brothers. Oskar has Duchenne muscular dystrophy and is severely autistic.

Duchenne muscular dystrophy is a devastating, progressive, and fatal muscle-wasting disease that almost exclusively affects boys. One in 3,500 boys are born with Duchenne, and the average life expectancy is twenty-one years.

There is currently no cure for Duchenne, and it is 100% fatal. Yesterday, the 26th of June, marked 10 years since the boys’ diagnoses. It was a somber anniversary.

Oskar is full of love. He's a caring little boy who enjoys spontaneously hugging others, loves drawing, lizards, and the outdoors. He only wants to wear skater-style clothing and Manga baseball hats. He can spend hours mesmerised by the beauty of a dragonfly.

Oskar stopped walking completely a few months ago and is now wheelchair-bound. We want to provide Oskar with a wheelchair that has a riser, allowing him to meet the eye level of the person he is talking to and giving him access to higher surfaces and environments that he couldn't reach otherwise.

This wheelchair with a riser will enable Oskar to engage fully with others, which is especially important given his learning difficulties, autism, and life-limiting condition. It will allow him to get the most out of his interactions with the world and others.

Oskar had been down lately as he know he won't be able to walk ever again. I can't wait to see that purest of smiles back on his face.
