We are reaching out to you with an urgent and heartfelt request to support Pukar Bam, one of Nepal’s most dedicated youth leaders, activists, and educators. For nearly two decades, Pukar has fought tirelessly for good governance, education reform, healthcare access, disaster relief, and youth empowerment—always putting the nation before himself.
Now, he has earned an incredible opportunity to pursue a Master in Public Administration (MC/MPA) at Harvard Kennedy School as an Edward S. Mason Fellow. This program will equip him with global networks, policy expertise, and leadership training—tools that Nepal desperately needs to navigate its complex governance and geopolitical challenges.

For the past 18 years, Pukar has always prioritized action over words and has been at the frontlines of change in Nepal—leading movements in education reform, healthcare access, good governance, and disaster relief. From co-founding Nepal’s youth-led alternative political Bibeksheel movement, becoming the youngest candidate to run for parliament at age 23 in 2013, to playing an integral role in the formation of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) in 2022, which secured 21 parliamentary seats in just five months, he has consistently worked to transform Nepal’s political and social landscape. As a Secretariat Team Member/Advisor to MP and former Education Minister Sumana Shrestha, he played an important role in implementing crucial education reforms, ensuring better policies in teacher training, school governance, and equitable resource distribution.
He had also played a key role in leading and sustaining Dr. Govinda KC's movements, which successfully pressured the government to make medical education more affordable for all and accessible for marginalized students. He led Bibeksheel movement’s humanitarian efforts following the 2015 earthquake, which were crucial in delivering relief, medical aid, and rebuilding support to affected communities, often reaching disaster-stricken areas before government assistance arrived. During the pandemic, he mobilized a global coalition of over 4,000 volunteers and 250 organizations, leading prevention efforts and rescue and relief missions. He led the "Enough is Enough Campaign" , and staged a 12 day Hunger Strike to demand accountability, transparency and proper pandemic management.
Beyond activism and politics, Pukar is an educator and a champion of innovative learning models. In his final undergraduate year, he co-founded Shikharapur Sustainable Farmers’ School—A School for Community (ASC), an award-winning self-sustaining school that integrates formal education with vocational training. Designed for students from low-income families at risk of dropping out, ASC has since expanded to the bachelor’s level, empowering youth with skills in agriculture, carpentry, financial literacy, and technology. His dream is to replicate this model nationwide, creating a network of schools that not only educate but also equip students with the skills to thrive. He also envisions distance-learning programs for Nepalis working abroad, enabling them to complete their education while supporting their families and learning entrepreneurship.
As a lecturer and Head of the Social Work Department at a leading college in Nepal, Pukar has mentored thousands of students, many of whom are now emerging leaders in different fields. His deep connection to grassroots activism, policymaking, and education reform makes his pursuit of a Harvard MPA a game-changer for Nepal. He is taking a year off from his PhD in Social Work to pursue MPA at Harvard.

This program will equip him with the skills, networks, and global partnerships necessary to drive meaningful policy change in education, healthcare, governance, technology, AI, economic development, migration, and youth employment—critical areas for Nepal’s progress. Institutional funding has been difficult to secure, and Pukar now needs personal support to ensure he can bring back the knowledge, skills, and connections to drive real change in Nepal.
